It’s a cool idea to save electricity

Business CorrespondentTabreed Bahrain, known as Bahrain District Cooling Company, has unveiled the best solution to the Kingdom’s growing needs for keeping the skyscrapers buildings cool by using alternative methods saving 50 per cent electricity. The CEO of Tabreed Brent Anderson said upon the completion of BD 30 million Diplomatic area Project, the company will develop another three plants in Bahrain as we had secured their contracts, namely Bahrain Financial Harbour, the World Trade Centre, and Reef Islands.

“We can save up to 150 mega watt by using innovative technology to keep the buildings cool, cost effective and efficient. We have invested in excess of BD 150 million to the country’s economy and infrastructure development since Tabreed’s inception in 2004. The investments are expected to double to over BD 300 million in the next few years making Tabreed a pioneering company in the Kingdom’s history offering alternative solutions to electricity consumption for cooling.

Brent, who was joined by Kyriacos Yiacoumi, Managing Director of EMCO and Sofyan K. Al Moayed, Managing Director of Khalid Moayed and Sons, announced the award of contract to EMCO, one of the Kingdom’s leading electrical and mechanical contractors, to handle the electro-mechanical facilities for its first district cooling plant.

“The facility, in Manama’s Diplomatic Area, is the first of four such plants being constructed by Tabreed in Bahrain.

“By November 2008, Tabreed Bahrain will be able to provide cooling services to buildings within the proximity of our district cooling network, from the Diplomatic Area, along Government Avenue, across to Bahrain Financial Harbour, Reef Island and developments in the Seef area,” said Brent.

“District cooling is gaining popularity because it is an energy efficient technology and provides 50 per cent savings over conventional cooling systems.”

Tabreed Bahrain’s impressive client roster includes important landmarks such as the Bahrain World Trade Centre, Bahrain Financial Harbour, Reef Island and other prestigious projects.
